Childhood Sweethearts That Were Never Meant To Be

I think my worst dating experience was twenty years ago when I was about ten, and totally in love with this older girl at school. She was one of the popular girls, seriously pretty and way out of my league. I knew it, she knew, I think the whole school knew it, but I was a cocky little rude boy and I wanted to show off to all my mates.

We arranged with her mates to make sure she was in a certain place at a certain time because I wanted to ask her out. It was meant to be a private thing but when I turned up at lunch, it felt like the word had spread and the whole school was there in the corner of the playground waiting to witness the occasion.

I was so nervous, that out of nowhere this bad attitude sprung up, and I started to make fun of her in front of everyone. I don’t know what the hell I was doing, but there I was, dissing the girl of my dreams in front of all her mates, and all of my mates. She gave as good as she got, and soon we were just having a good old slanging match and being revved on by everyone else, it was a disaster.

The worst bit was when her mates and my mates decided it would be a good idea to turn against us both and start pushing us towards each other making kissy-kissy noises. It was so bad. She never spoke to me again, and I have had a constant chip on my shoulder ever since.
