There are some places that make great spots for a first date, while others do not. Here are a few spots that you should try to avoid on your first date.
If you have a friend or a family member who is getting married, you might be enticed to bring someone who you care about to celebrate. This someone shouldn’t be your “significant other” if the two of you just started dating.
2. Parent’s house
The first time the two of you go out shouldn’t also be the first time they meet your parents. You’re best off having them meet your parents after the two of you have gotten to know each other better.
3. Family get-togethers
Your first date shouldn’t be at one of these for many of the same reason why the date shouldn’t be at a wedding. The purpose of the first date is to get to know each other better, and being around a lot of family will distract you from this objective.
Movie dates can be great, just not for first dates. It’s hard to get a conversation going when you’re watching the big screen.
5. Sports Games
Unless both of you are huge fans of a certain team, don’t drag your date to a sports game, especially if you’re a guy. There’s nothing romantic about screaming at the top of your lungs for an hour.
6. A Bar
Bars in general make bad date locations, even if you met at a bar. It’s definitely the wrong atmosphere for a couple just getting to know each other.
7. The Pool
Going to public pools can be fun and relaxing, but on the first date, revealing that much skin can be unnerving.
For much the same reason as the pool, the beach is a no-no for a first date. Also, the hyper-romantic connotations of a long walk on the beach are a little bit too much for a first date.
9. A Friend’s House
A first date should consist of just you and your partner, not you, your partner, and a third wheel friend. Maybe you might feel comfortable having a friend around but your date will not.
10. A Fast Food Joint
Having lunch, dinner, or coffee can be a nice casual idea for a first date if those places are nice themselves. Having a first date at Subway or McDonald’s will not set a good tone for your relationship. It’s just not classy.
